Intel Releases 32nm CPUs For Ultra-Thin Laptops
Intel introduced new Intel Core processors today, extending the availability of its Intel Core processor family to more stylish, ultra-thin laptops.
Ultraportable laptops - less than an inch thick and weighing just 2 to 5 pounds - offer the performance, battery life and connectivity consumers need on-the-go.
Based on Intel's 32 nanometer (nm) technology manufacturing, the processors are more than 32 percent smaller and deliver more than 32 percent better performance, all in a lightweight design. These new processors also reduce power consumption more than 15 percent, resulting in great battery life, according to Intel.
"Consumers crave laptops that offer style and performance, and the new 2010 Intel Core Ultra-Low Voltage processors for ultra-thin laptops delivers both, in one sleek design," said Mooly Eden, vice president and general manager of the PC Client Group at Intel. "Intel's leadership in 32nm high-k metal gate process technology, combined with breakthrough architecture and design has enabled thinner, lighter and faster notebooks than previous models, with terrific battery life. Not only are laptops becoming ultraportable, but with the new processors inside, users will see faster response times and less waiting."
Specifically Intel is launching 4 new Intel Core ultra-low voltage processors:
* Intel Core i7-660UM (1.33GHz, 2.40GHz with TurboBoost, 4MB L3), Intel Core i5-540UM (1.2GHz, 2GHz with TurboBoost, 3MB L3), Intel Core i5-430UM (1.2GHz, 1.73GHz with TurboBoost, 3MB L3), Intel Core i3-330UM (1.2GHz, no TurboBoost, 3MB L3)
Key features include:
* Intel Turbo Boost Technology
* Intel Hyper Threading Technology
* Intel HD graphics (Graphics core speed 166Mhz ~ 500Mhz)
* 18W TDP
Also introducing:
* New ULV Intel Pentium ultra-low voltage processor U5400 (1.20GHz, no TurboBoost, 3MB L3, Graphics core speed 166Mhz ~ 500Mhz)
* New Intel Celeron ultra-low voltage processor U3400 (1.06GHz, no TurboBoost, 2MB L3, Graphics core speed 166Mhz ~ 500Mhz)
Processors that feature Intel Turbo Boost Technology will automatically accelerate performance, adjusting to the workload to give users an immediate performance boost when needed. Intel Hyper-Threading Technology, available in Intel Core i7, Intel Core i5 and Intel Core i3 processors, provides responsiveness and helps reduce latency when performing several tasks simultaneously. With Intel HD Graphics, the processors deliver high-quality visuals and smooth high-definition (HD) video and audio playback.
In addition, recently announced Mobile Intel 5 Series Chipset designed for use with the ULV-based laptops expands support for multiple video and audio options, enhanced data and PC protection with Intel Anti-Theft Technology and robust data protection for users' digital assets.
More than 40 designs are expected from computer makers such as Acer, Asus, Lenovo and MSI, and will be offered at a variety of price points beginning in June.

Google turns homepage into PAC-MAN game
GOOGLE has turned the logo on its homepage into a playable PAC-MAN game to celebrate the character's 30th birthday.
Although the logo is frequently changed to mark special occasions, this is the first time it has been turned into an interactive feature.
"Today, on PAC-MAN’s 30th birthday, you can rediscover some of your 8-bit memories - or meet PAC-MAN for the first time - through our first-ever playable Google doodle," Google developer Marcin Wichary wrote in a blog post.
"To play the game, go to google.com during the next 48 hours (because it’s too cool to keep for just one day) and either press the “Insert Coin” button or just wait for a few seconds."
As a bonus, Ms. PAC-MAN joins the game when players throw in another coin.

Google to Stop Offering Nexus One Through its Web Store
The weak online sales of Google's Nexus One smartphone has pushed the company to stop offering it online.
Google launched Nexus One in January. Since then, the adoption of the Android platform was strong and the technology behind Nexus One has found its way into numerous Android handsets, like the HTC Evo 4G from Sprint and the Verizon Droid Incredible by HTC.
However, while the global adoption of the Android platform has exceeded Google's expectations, the web store has not. It's remained a niche channel for early adopters.
As a result, google decided to make Nexus One globally available and follow the same model the company has adopted in Europe, where it is working with partners to offer Nexus One to consumers through existing retail channels.
Once the Nexus One devices will be available in stores, Google will stop selling handsets via the web store, and will instead use it as an online store window to showcase a variety of Android phones available globally.

Microsoft Releases Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010
Microsoft today announced the worldwide availability of Microsoft Office 2010 and Microsoft SharePoint 2010, as well as Microsoft Visio 2010 and Microsoft Project 2010.
Besides the introduction of Microsoft's popular Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), Microsoft is rolling out its own online versions to keep up with the new class of mobile, web-connected users that have emerged since the last upgrade in 2006. Microsoft is obviously countering the challenge of free online alternatives from Google.
Microsoft said that its Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 beta programs were the largest ever, with three times the number of participants compared with the Office 2007 beta program. As a result, 8.6 million people are already using Office 2010 and related products.
Office 2010 and related products deliver new capabilities to help people connect and collaborate with co-authoring in Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft OneNote. Other highlights of the new Office applications include advanced e-mail management and calendaring capabilities in Microsoft Outlook and the addition of the new Microsoft Outlook Social Connector, which brings communication history and social network feeds directly into Outlook. The Outlook e-mail program also adds new features to tame the ever-growing number of messages in the inbox, including a way to group all replies to a single thread under one line - as well as a way to "ignore" new replies and send them right to the trash.
But the most interesting facet is Microsoft's move into the "cloud", allowing users to manipulate documents stored on remote servers from anywhere.
Users are able to work virtually anywhere with Microsoft Office Web Apps, the online companions to Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel and OneNote. Along with easy access to documents from virtually anywhere, Web Apps help preserve the look and feel of a document regardless of device, so content and format are generally preserved while moving between the PC, phone and browser. Effective today, Office Mobile 2010 will be available for free via Windows Phone Marketplace for all Windows Mobile 6.5 phones with a previous version of Office Mobile. People using Office Mobile 2010 can perform lightweight editing of Office documents and take notes on the go. With Office Mobile, people can work with Office documents stored on their phone, attached to an e-mail, and can browse, edit, and update documents stored on a Microsoft SharePoint 2010 site.
Other features of the Office 2010 include broadcast capabilities for Powerpoint 2010, auto-previewing in Word, easy document preparation through the new Microsoft Office Backstage view, and new Sparklines in Excel for precise trend and data visualization.
In addition, Office Web Apps will now be available to Microsoft's Office volume licensing customers. In addition, Microsoft's customers will be able to purchase a subscription to Office Web Apps as part of Microsoft Online Services, Microsoft's cloud-based applications.
For developers, Microsoft released SharePoint 2010. The software delivers the business collaboration platform for the enterprise and Internet, enabling developers to respond to business needs with custom applications and solutions. SharePoint 2010 offers flexible deployment options: Use Sandboxed Solutions to limit code central processing unit time, Microsoft SQL Server execution time, and exception handling. Plus, use these same technologies to deploy custom code to SharePoint Online.
Through design integration with Visual Studio 2010, developers can use familiar application development tools to create, package and debug SharePoint solutions. It also includes rich application programming interfaces and support for Open XML, Microsoft Silverlight, Representational State Transfer (REST) and Language-Integrated Query (LINQ), which help developers build applications quickly. Developers can also build applications that connect to line-of-business data, use custom workflows, and provide business intelligence data and dashboards to an entire organization.
Available today in 14 languages, over the course of the next few months, Office 2010 and related products will eventually be available in 94 languages.

Google Revamps Search Results Page
Google's search results has changed revealing search tools on the left and updating the visual look throughout, for more effectively tracking down content on the Internet.
The left side of the results page was given a navigation panel featuring tools to refine queries with options including prioritizing more current content or pursuing related topics. And search requests for merchandise are more likely to trigger an option that would allow the user to click on a link on the left side of the page to include more or fewer search results.
In addition to the left-hand side changes, Google has updated the search page's color palette and logo. The Google logo will lose the "TM" that signals Google is a trademark.

AMD Releases Low-power ATI FirePro RG220 Graphics Card
AMD today announced a remote graphics option for IT managers seeking to replace existing desktop workstations with energy-efficient solutions.
The ATI FirePro RG220 graphics card is designed to help IT managers reduce local power and cooling costs per user while limiting the amount of physical hardware at users' desks.
The FirePro RG220 is an integrated graphics card that includes display compression and IP transmission. It compresses dual-display graphic data at the host and outputs it over a regular IP network to a remote thin client device.
"Power consumption restrictions in crowded office buildings cause headaches for IT managers trying to find the right balance between energy efficiency, system performance and IT spend for the work environments they manage," said Janet Matsuda, senior director, Professional Graphics, AMD. "The ATI FirePro RG220 can be part of a secure, easy to manage solution, and is now available to enterprises that need to deploy updates to multiple users simultaneously, while still giving the end user the full PC experience they're accustomed to."
Features of the new ATI FirePro RG220 include:
* Low power consumption: a max power consumption of 35-watts per card.
* High-Performance, reliable graphics: 512 MB of on-board graphics memory for graphics intensive applications that need to run on two displays at once.
* Small form factor: measuring just half the length of a standard PCIe card, the ATI FirePro RG220 fits into smaller systems and only takes up one PCIe slot within a server.
* Security: powered by the network, the ATI FirePro RG220 is part of a secure solution that stores user data behind the firewall and within the confines of the data center, helping to ensure that customer or corporate information is protected. Supports compression of information residing in the data center for transmission over regular IP networks to the end user's thin client system.
* Virtualization: Utilizing Parallels Workstation Extreme (PWE), ATI FirePro RG220 offers a traditional graphics experience in a virtual environment, with the flexibility to also support multiple operating systems at each user's desk.
Features
* OpenGL 2.1 support
* DirectX 10.1 compliant GPU
* 512MB of memory
* Dual 1920x1200 display output
* Full support for USB devices
System Requirements
* Available PCI Express 2.0 x16 lane slot
* Microsoft Windows XP (32- or 64-bit) / Windows Vista (32- or 64-bit) / Windows 7 (32- or 64-bit)
* 256MB of system memory
* CD-ROM drive for software installation
* 350-Watt power supply or greater
* PCoIP-capable thin client device required for remote connectivity
Output Connectivity
* Dual Ethernet ports plus DMS-59 for dual DVI-D output (no VGA support on the host output side)
* Remote display options are determined by the output capabilities of the PCoIP thin client device
Warranty and Support
* Three year limited product repair/replacement warranty

ASUS Launches the EeeKeyboard PC
ASUS today launched the EeeKeyboard PC, a fully-functional PC concealed within a keyboard.
First unveiled at CES 2009, the portable 1kg EeeKeyboard PC works with any HDTV, monitor, or projector to turn itself into a full-fledged PC. It provides users with a wireless computing platform, with Ultra-wideband (UWB) Wireless Display connectivity enabling it to stream HD 720p videos up to a 5-meter range (maximum 10-meter range for non-video transfers). Its built-in 5" multi-touch panel allows users to direct the on-screen cursor to launch programs, send instant messages, and control its media player.
Connect the EeeKeyboard PC to a HDTV in the living room to turn it into the family multimedia entertainment center; hook it up with a monitor in the study or office and use it as a normal PC; or pair it with a projector in a conference room for presentations.
The EeeKeyboard PC comes with a shock-proof solid state drive, while built-in conveniences such as the microphone and high quality stereo speakers allow users to enjoy all of the EeeKeyboard PC's features without requiring additional accessories.
